Begovic urges Cherries squad to remain upbeat
AFC Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has issued a message to his teammates ahead of the international break.
As reported by the Bournemouth Echo, Begovic has told his peers to use the break as a chance to regroup with the right attitude.
Begovic was between the sticks on Saturday as the Cherries fell to a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park, Salomon Rondon scoring both goals for the Magpies.
In fact, the 31-year-old has started every one of the Club’s 12 Premier League matches this season, keeping four cleansheets and conceding 16 goals in the process.
Saturday’s defeat was the first time Eddie Howe’s men have suffered back to back losses this campaign, but the club still sit in a lofty 6th position with 20 points to their name.
On the match and international break, Begovic said:
On the whole, we still have to be upbeat. It’s a chance for us to regroup now. It’s a long season and there will be ups and downs, no doubt about it. We have to bounce back from the past couple of weeks and come back stronger for the festive period ahead.
It was an all-around difficult afternoon. We never quite hit our levels and that was disappointing. We stayed in the game long enough to give ourselves a chance to get a positive result. With a bit of luck at the other end and one of those going in, things could have been a lot different.
Begovic will not link up with Bosnia and Herzegovina over the next two weeks as he has a minor thumb injury.
